The Swiss Academy of Ophthalmology (SAoO) is a national foundation dedicated to
dedicated to quality assurance, research, and continuing education in practical ophthalmology.
The foundation acts both in a supportive capacity and primarily as an initiator of projects and new ideas.

The educational offerings include the annual Congress of the Swiss Academy of Ophthalmology, which focuses on
especially to ophthalmologists, optometrists, Young Swiss Ophthalmologists, medical students, opticians, orthoptists,
Practice assistants, anesthetists, surgical staff, and individuals from related fields.
The upcoming 11th congress will take place from February 12 to 19, 2027, at the KKL Luzern.
In addition, the SAoO has taken the lead in developing a standardized training program for ophthalmic medical practice assistants (OMPA).
