The Swiss Academy of Ophtalmology is a national foundation dedicated
to quality assurance, research and continuing education in practical ophthalmology.
It acts both as a support and primarily as an initiator of projects and new ideas and strives
to supplement traditional training, teaching and research activities with new means and impulses.
The foundation is committed to maintaining the high quality standards in ophthalmological practice and works to integrate
all innovative ideas and projects into the existing structures.
The educational offerings include the annual congress of the Swiss Academy of Ophthalmology.
This event is particularly aimed at ophthalmologists, optometrists, young Swiss ophthalmologists, medical students, opticians and orthoptists,
practice assistants, anaesthetists, operating theatre staff, and individuals from related fields.
The 10th congress will take place from 4 to 6 February 2026 at the KKL Lucerne.
The SAoO has also taken the lead in developing a standardised training programme for ophthalmic medical practice assistants (OMPA)
together with the Swiss Ophthalmological Society (SOG).
